- NEW Salsa spot in Cambridge this Friday night, May 9th. Thanks to Christina, we have another place to dance on Friday nights. The club is called Casa Nova Bar 519-624-9239 and is located at 5 Water Street North , Cambridge. Free 1/2 merengue, 1/2 hour salsa lesson at 8:30 taught by Christina and Tina. Free admission .
- On May 20/08 at 7:30 pm there will be a free screening of the film, Our Town : Kitchener/Waterloo , featuring a live performance of rueda, danced by some of our very own salseros from the Flying Dog and members of the K-W Rueda Club. The film was produced by WNED TV from Buffalo and is made up of a dozen or more segments filmed by local people and showcasing the many sides of our community . Of course, one of the segments is on salsa dancing and features our own salsa king, Looey , along with many others who love dancing. The screening will be held at WCI high school in Waterloo. - On June 6th there is a fundraiser for ROOF being held at Hacienda Sarria on Union Street in Kitchener. The event is called Spanish Fiesta , featuring musical entertainment by "Zorba". This evening starts at 8 pm at Hacienda Sarria on Union Street in Kitchener. For $25 there will be musical entertainment, tapas, silent auction, door prizes, cash bar featuring the wines of Spain and live salsa performances by members of SalsaOntario.com and the K-W Rueda Club. - On June 13/14 our friends at Neruda productions are going to host an International Street Dance/Festival . This event is shaping up to be a fantastic event with many kinds of dance represented, as well as vendors with food and crafts. More information will be posted as we get closer to the event but mark your calendars and keep the dates free if you want to enjoy a new , interesting event.
Rueda anyone? What the heck is Rueda?? You may have seen it at the Flying dog or at the Club and thought WOW that looks like tons of fun! Casino Rueda is a Cuban style salsa dancing done in a circle with partner changes and a caller who shouts out the moves in Spanish - sort of like square dancing but way more cool! Amazing to learn and dance and it also helps your timing in regular salsa, as well as your repertoire of moves. Check out the rueda moves syllabus to see what we have so far .......and watch for us on the dance floor of the Flying Dog !
